Here's to a fantastic season of rugby! Please take a few moments to read this newsletter to keep up to date with all the happenings this season.

Coaches and Managers

A huge thank you to all those who have volunteered to coach and manage our teams. We really appreciate all the time and effort you put into our kids, you are all amazing! Coaches put alot of time and effort into planning the training sessions and game day, so parents, if your player can not make it to training or game day, please let your manager know as soon as possible, so coaches can adjust their plan.

Draw

The draw is distributed to your coaches and managers. You can also access it on the CRFU app, under Fixtures - North Canterbury Junior & Teenage Fixtures. The draw does change, so please ensure that you refresh and check it for any amendments.

Teams

We cater for all ages, from teenage right down to pre school age. Please contact us if you have a query to what grade your child should be playing in.

Oranges

Due to the fact that NZ oranges are not in season yet, we try our best to have oranges each week but sometimes this is not possible. If we have them, they will be available upstairs at training.

Jerseys

Jerseys are handed out at each game. These get handed back in after the game. They are washed and kept in the team bag, so that if anyone is away or players are needed to fill in, then there is enough jerseys in the bag to cover. Your team will have a roster system for the washing :)

Hoodies

Woodend RFC hoodies are available to purchase in the clubrooms. If you know of someone who would like to sponsor them for your team, please do let your team manager know.

Socks

Socks are available to purchase.

Mouthguards

All players have to wear a mouth guard when playing. This is a New Zealand Rugby rule, so if they are not wearing a mouth guard they can not play, no exceptions. If your players needs a mouth guard, please let your team manager know.

Subs

Subs are now past due. To those who have already paid, thank you! If you haven't paid yet, we would really appreciate if you could make payment as soon as possible.

Code of Conduct

Please read the Code of Conduct with your players so they know what is expected of them. There is also one for parents, so please take a moment and have a read :) This is on our website. https://www.sporty.co.nz/woodendrfc/Code-of-Conduct

Player of the Day & Most Improved Player

The club likes to recognise Player of the Days and Most Improved Players at our senior games, on the results board and on our Facebook page.

Social Media

If you haven't, please like our Facebook page, Woodend Rugby Club. This is where any cancellations will be posted.

At times, your child's picture may appear on our Facebook page or website. This may be an action shot while playing, receiving an award, partaking in club activities, team photo etc. If you do not want your child's picture appearing, please contact us and let us know.

Home game duties

After the game, teams head up to the club rooms for speeches and food. At away games, the home team provides the food.

  • Plate of food to be brought by each child to share with the other team
  • Put it on the table under team name e.g U6 Black,
  • On a roster system, parents heat up food, if needed and set up table before game finishes
  • On a roster system, parents clean up their table, wash dishes and ensure table is ready for the next team to set up
  • Club supplies tea and coffee for parents and supporters. Please keep on eye on water level in Urn and top up as necessary.
  • Speeches, Player of the Day awards to be done by coaches before the children start eating.
  • Make sure your player(s) knows not to touch the food until after the speeches :)

Sponsors

We are very lucky to have some awesome club sponsors, we are very grateful for their continued support. Our Player of the Day & Most Improved Player certificates come from Winnie Bagoes, McDonalds, Willowbank, Sal's Pizza and The Good Home.

Pitch Side Advertising

You may have noticed we have some new on field sponsorship hoarding. If your business would like to purchase a space. Please contact us.

Child Protection Policy

To help ensure the protection of children in our care, New Zealand Rugby have provided Provincial Unions and Clubs with guidance about protecting children and young people involved in rugby. Our Child Protection Policy is on our website, please have a read https://www.sporty.co.nz/woodendrfc/ChildProtectionPolicy If you suspect a child is being abused, please contact Phil (Pukku), Club President who will instigate and follow the reporting protocol.

Club Day

Our club day will be Saturday TBC. Games begin at 10am for our juniors. Both of our senior teams are playing at home, Div 2 kick off at 1pm and Div 1 at 2.45pm. We really encourage players and parents to stay and support all the teams playing throughout the day. We will have some of our seniors players helping out with our junior teams on Saturday.

We will be selling hot food all day Saturday and would love some helpers on the BBQ - if you can help out for a shift, please head over to the food tent and see if you can relieve some one of their duties, many hands make light work.

Club Day is a fun day and the clubrooms will be open all evening - bar will be open, something great to watch on the big screens, and food will be available. We would love for you and your players to come down and mingle with past and present players and supporters of the club.

Here's hoping everyone has a fantastic season, if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please do not hestitate to contact me.
